It’s easy to play Dupla Sena. You just have to choose numbers from 1 to 50. You can pick between six and 15 numbers, either by selecting them yourself or marking the Surpresinha option to get a random set. Enter your numbers into just the next game or multiple games in a row – the options are 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, or 12.
The cost of entry is R$2.50 if you submit a single set of six numbers. If you play more numbers, you are essentially entering lots of different combinations. This increases the probability of winning, but you have to pay for each one. The table below shows how many combinations you get when you select more numbers, and the corresponding cost of entry.
Some of the Lotto prizes are fixed amounts and some are calculated on a pari-mutuel basis, which means they depend on how many tickets are sold and how many winners there are in each tier. The prize tiers for matching five and six numbers, or six numbers plus the bonus, each receive a set percentage of the total prize fund. The remaining money is then used to pay out the fixed-value prizes, including the jackpot.
The value of the jackpot is determined by lottery provider Veikkaus before the draw. If it is not won in a given draw, it will roll over to the next one and will continue to do so until someone wins it.
Numbers Played | Number of Different Combinations | Cost of Entry |
---|---|---|
6 | 1 | R$2.50 |
7 | 7 | R$17.50 |
8 | 28 | R$70 |
9 | 84 | R$210 |
10 | 210 | R$525.50 |
11 | 462 | R$1,155 |
12 | 924 | R$2,310 |
13 | 1,716 | R$4,290 |
14 | 3,003 | R$7,507.50 |
15 | 5,005 | R$12,512.50 |
The difference with Dupla Sena to other lotteries is that there are two draws per game. Six winning numbers are drawn from 1 to 50 in the first draw, and then another six are drawn from 1 to 50 in the second draw. The machine is reset between the draws and all the balls go back in, so it is possible for the same number to appear in both draws.
How to Win Prizes
To win a prize, you must match at least three of the winning numbers in either draw. For example, there is no prize for matching two numbers in the first draw and one in the second.
A percentage of the prize fund is allocated to each tier. The largest portion goes to the jackpot for the first draw. If there is no winner in any category, it accumulates for the next draw and is added to the top prize in the first draw.
The following table shows how the prize fund is split between the different tiers. The remaining 16 percent accumulates for the special Dupla de Páscoa draw.
Prize Tier | How to Win | Draw 1 or 2 | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
Jackpot - Sena | Match 6 Numbers | Draw 1 | 30% |
Tier 2 - Quina | Match 5 Numbers | Draw 1 | 10% |
Tier 3 - Quadra | Match 4 Numbers | Draw 1 | 8% |
Tier 4 - Terno | Match 3 Numbers | Draw 1 | 4% |
Jackpot - Sena | Match 6 Numbers | Draw 2 | 11% |
Tier 2 - Quina | Match 5 Numbers | Draw 2 | 9% |
Tier 3 - Quadra | Match 4 Numbers | Draw 2 | 8% |
Tier 4 - Terno | Match 3 Numbers | Draw 2 | 4% |
If you win a prize, the process for receiving it depends on how much you have won, and whether you played online or in-store. You have 90 days to claim prizes, as you do with all Brazilian lotteries. Go to the How to Claim page for more information.

There are also a number of options for playing Dupla Sena in a Bolão. You can split a ticket with other players to reduce the cost of taking part, which is particularly useful if you want to select more than the standard six numbers. It is possible to enter groups with as many as 50 shares.
Dupla de Páscoa
Dupla de Páscoa takes place on the Saturday before Easter Sunday, making it the first special draw of the year in Brazil. The prize fund accumulates throughout the year and goes to the top prize in the first draw, which can be worth as much as R$30 million.
If no tickets match all six numbers in the first draw, the jackpot money goes to players in the second tier. The rest of the prizes work the same way as in regular draws. Tickets go on sale 30 days before the draw takes place.
